  • PHARMACY BOARD BEGINS NATIONWIDE SENSITISATION AND STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT ON TRAMADOL RESTRICTION

The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has begun its nationwide sensitisation and stakeholders’ engagement on the restriction of Tramadol use with a significant meeting ongoing at the Regional Office in Nyaleguihun Bo.

The engagement brings together key stakeholders including the Pharmaceutical Business Association the Pharmaceutical Society of Sierra Leone Civil Society Organizations Traditional Leaders the Bike Riders Union the Traders Union and members of the fourth estate. The session aims to strengthen collaboration clarify the Ministerial Order and ensure full compliance across all sectors.

It could be recalled that in December 2025 the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Health issued a Ministerial Order banning the sale and use of Tramadol above 50mg capsules and 50mg/ml injectable formulations in Sierra Leone due to the growing public health and social concerns linked to its abuse.

The Registrar of the Pharmacy Board emphasised that the Board will not encourage the sale distribution or misuse of Tramadol above 50mg and remains firm in enforcing the directive to safeguard public health and national security.

The Board urges all stakeholders and members of the public to support this initiative and report any illegal sale or distribution of restricted Tramadol products.

Together we can protect our communities and build a healthier Sierra Leone.
